Planning Underground Services on a Sydney Site
A coordinated approach to power, communications, water, gas, drainage, pits and future access.
Underground services work best when the route is planned as one system. Start with the site plan and mark every service entry, pit, crossing, future connection, finished level and access constraint. This avoids installing one conduit where a later service needs the same space.
Separate the design responsibility from the civil delivery responsibility. The electrical, communications, plumbing and drainage trades specify their systems; the excavation crew builds the agreed trenches, bores, pits and backfill around those requirements.
Record what goes in the ground. Photos, measurements, labels and marked-up plans create a useful as-built record for the owner and future maintenance crews.
