How Underboring Under a Sydney Driveway Works
What to plan when a conduit, pipe or service needs to pass beneath a finished driveway without cutting the slab.
Underboring creates a narrow underground path between an entry pit and an exit pit. A pneumatic boring tool or similar trenchless method travels below the driveway, allowing conduit or casing to be pulled through without removing the full surface. It is useful for electrical, NBN, water, gas and other service crossings where reinstatement would add time and cost.
The route still needs careful set-out. The crew needs the crossing length, driveway construction, likely ground conditions, entry and exit locations, and the size and number of conduits. A service scan is important because a driveway crossing can sit above older electrical, water, gas or communications lines.
Underboring is not a shortcut around planning. It is a different construction method that works best when the route, cover and connection points are known before equipment arrives.
