How to plan a drainage trench when grade, fall and connection points matter more than a straight route.
Stormwater and drainage trenches are driven by grade. The shortest line is not always the correct line if it cannot maintain the required fall or connect cleanly to the legal point of discharge. Start with levels, outlet location, pipe size and the surface that will be opened.
Trenching through gardens, driveways and paths requires a plan for spoil, bedding, pipe protection and reinstatement. A small excavator can reduce manual handling, but access needs to be checked before plant is booked.
Underboring is usually considered for a specific crossing rather than the full drainage run. Use the method that preserves the required grade and gives the plumber a practical pipe installation path.
