How Bore Length and Ground Conditions Affect Sydney Jobs
What to include in a quote request when the crossing length, soil, fill or access is uncertain.
A bore length measured on a map is not the same as the working distance. Add pit width, safe set-back, connection allowance and the route's actual entry and exit points. The ground also matters: fill, clay, rock, groundwater and existing structures can change the method and setup.
Give the contractor the best available information rather than hiding uncertainty. Site photos, previous plans, a route sketch and a description of the surface usually produce a more useful first assessment than a single number.
A site visit may still be needed before a firm method is selected. That is normal for underground work; the aim is to identify uncertainty before the equipment and following trades are committed.

- Measure the actual entry-to-exit route
- Note soil, rock, fill or groundwater clues
- Photograph access and surfaces
- Identify nearby services and structures
- Separate a preliminary estimate from a confirmed scope
